Rattlesnake Percussion Stirring Drum

The Rattlesnake Percussion Stirring Drum produces a flowing sequence of wooden notes through a simple circular movement. Eight differently tuned wooden tongues surround the hollow drum, each producing its own pitch as the accompanying mallet travels around the inside.

Rather than striking a conventional drumhead, the mallet moves from one wooden tongue to the next, creating a succession of soft, resonant tapping sounds. Changing the direction or speed of the movement alters the resulting sequence, making this an intriguing alternative to traditional drums and xylophones.
